Our Candidates
Jaclyn Casler, MPA
Hello! I live in Chemainus.
I will be a candidate in the 2026 election for the 6 member Council for the Municipality of North Cowichan. I grew up in Mill Bay, lived in Victoria for many years after university, and then I was out in Atlantic Canada until 2023 when I returned to the Island to work for the the BC Government.
My mission between now and the October 17 election is to bring attention to North Cowichan and why we all need to care about local government.
I believe we need and deserve a municipal council that includes:
New faces
A variety of demographic and social backgrounds
People who value government and pledge to maintain it
People who are respectful and service oriented
People who recognize their role as elected representatives with the legal framework for local government in BC
People who set rules and maintain them
People committed to transparency and accountability
People who understand the vastness of local government
People who want to sit around the council table for more than one reason
About Me
I grew up in Mill Bay with my 2 brothers. My parents met each other while at high school in Saltair, where a good portion of my extended family still lives.
I studied government in university, completing a Masters degree in Public Administration. I’ve worked in and around government ever since.
My full time employment is as an Arbitrator with the BC Residential Tenancy Branch.
I am ready and willing to serve as a member of the North Cowichan Council because:
I am passionate about predictable governance and process
I have experience working with local government stakeholders across Canada and the US
I have professional administrative and legislative experience at the local and provincial government level in multiple provinces
I am already knowledgeable of many municipal topics and major issues facing local governments
I once even considered pursuing a PhD focused on modernizing local government
Council members are required to regularly read lots of content and then discuss relevant considerations in a public setting - I already read and talk for a living so serving on Council would be an easy transition
I am a tech savvy Millennial who knows how to use AI
My default in life is to be simple, clear and reasonable
I enjoy volunteering and currently serve as the Treasurer for the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society. I am also a volunteer Steward for Fuller Lake tracking data on lake health for the BC Lake Stewardship Society.
